Act Two

One very cold day, our Mother said to us, "You are no longer kittens my dears. It is time you made your own way now. I am going to have a new family of kittens very soon and I must raise them as I did you."

My remaining Brothers, Sisters and I looked at each other. We knew this day would come, but it was so sad. We had each become more and more independent, and caught our own food now.

Our Mother nuzzled us goodbye and left.

All my Brothers and Sisters but one said goodbye as well. My littlest Sister wanted to stay with me.

"Brother," she said, "Perhaps we can find a home together?"

Off we went, knowing we needed shelter and food. We found it a little distance away, in an old church. After checking out all the corners, we decided it was play time!

It was so fun to sit and swat at those ropes! Suddenly I felt a tug on my tail!

"Eiiooooooow!" I cried!

We jumped down in a flash and ran. The man hollered at us to scat! We hid all night in that old church and left the next morning.

It was so very very cold.
